Dermal Fillers & Lip Enhancement

As we age our skin looses the natural plumpness we see in our more youthful years. This process can make us look a lot older than we are and this is where dermal fillers come in to save the day.

Dermal Fillers are made up of Hyaluronic Acid, a sugar that naturally occurs within our skin. It is responsible for plumping our skin up & the dermal fillers available today come in a variety of thicknesses, each suited to different applications.

The most common areas fillers are used are for Lip and Cheek Enhancement. They are also used to restore volume of other areas of the face and body, smoothing out lines & deep wrinkles and even to reshape the chin, jawline and nose.

This relatively pain-free procedure has minimal downtime and can last for up to 2 years, depending on which filler is used.

Most dermal fillers are a clear gel substance that is naturally found in skin. The thickness of fillers varies and generally this thickness will determine how long the filler will last in the skin and what area it is suited to. The thicker the filler, the longer it will last and they are more suited to cheek reshaping, jaw & nose applications and so on. The finer, more viscose fillers do not tend to last as long as the thinkers ones however are better suited to more detailed applications such as tear troughs, lines and wrinkles and to smooth out the skins surface. These fillers can be placed superficially in the skin without causing lumps where as the thicker fillers need to be placed more dermal to avoid being noticeable and therefore are more suited for restructuring of an area.

Most fillers are blended with a local anaesthetic, this minimises discomfort throughout the treatment.

A topical anaesthetic can be applied for more nervous patients, please mention this when you make your appointment if you feel you will require this.

It is possible to fill  a sensitive area like the lips with minimal discomfort – even without a a nerve block to numb the areas prior to treatment.

Dermal Fillers are designed to revolumise facial contours and enhance your features. They give the skin a plumper, smoother, refreshed appearance which in turn gives your skin a more youthful appearance. The common areas we use dermal fillers include

  • Cheek Enhancement
  • Under Eye Area
  • Nose Reshaping

The length of time a Dermal Filler will last varies due to numerous reasons. For most people a thin consistency filler will last around 4-6months and the thicker ones 1-2years.

It is advised that you drink plenty of water following your filler procedure to maximise their potential and therefore making them last longer.

As a general rule the filler used for many Lip Enhancements will last around a year and cheeks would last up to 2 years.

Dr Oksana can give you a more accurate idea of how long filler will last for you during your complimentary consultation

Yes, you can have both Dermal Fillers and Anti-Wrinkle Treatment done on the same day.

If you have had previous dermal fillers you may need to wait for the old filler to completely dissolve in the skin before new ones can be added. This is because different fillers may not react well to each other in the skin and the results would not be desirable. Please let Dr Oksana know if you have had any other filler products used in the area you wish to treat.

No, we do not recommend having any cosmetic injectable treatment whilst you are pregnant or breast feeding. There is simply not enough medical data to prove that these kind of procedures are safe for your baby so as a general rule we do not treat anyone who is pregnant or breast feeding

The area treated will appear to be a little swollen immediately post treatment. And possibly a little red. We recommend you continue to ice the area after your session for as long as possible to reduce swelling as quickly as possible so you may resume normal activity. Occasionally some bruising may appear in the treated area, if you are prone to bruising we do recommend you use a supplement to reduce the risk and minimise any bruise that may appear. Dr Oksana will provide you with adequate information regarding this, please mention if this is a concern of yours.

Equally important is if you are prone to cold sores it is  imperative you take a supplement prior to receiving dermal filler in the lip area to avoid having an outbreak of cold sores.

Most people find that by the next day after treatment most of the swelling has subsided and redness has dispersed.

Immediately after the filler has been injected into the area you will see the result. Drink plenty of plain water following your treatment and ice the area to reduce immediate swelling and within the first 2 days you should find full results are visible
